MONEY IN UKRAINE
THE NATIONAL CURRENCYOF UKRAINE IS THE HRYVNIA (Pronounced Grivna and also spelled Hryvna). The HRYVNIA is now stable and as of March 18, 2017 is trading at 26.70 to the USD. The HRYVNIA is the official currency and all banks, restaurants, disco, etc. and all other normal purchases are conducted in HRYVNIA. If you are paying for something privately,US DOLLARS AND EUROS CAN BE USED.
Travelers checks, American Express and Barclays can be cashed in local banks into dollars for a additional3% SURCHARGE. American Express does not have an office in the Ukraine to replace lost checks.
ATM CARDS are widely used and bank machines are literally everywhere. ATM machines dispense in HRYVNIA and some even dispense in dollars for an additional 3% SURCHARGE. Instructions are in Russian, Ukrainian and English.
Please make sure that all of your banknotes our new and crisp. Worn bills or bills that are torn or have writing on them will not be excepted for exchange in Ukraine.
